Who is Marie Elena Martinez?

In the fall of 2005, I decided to put windowless office space, toner requests, writing literary press releases, and ten-years-on-the-job toasters behind me. I booked a ticket to Quito, Ecuador and began the journey of a lifetime.

Over the past six years, I've visited six continents and more than forty countries as diverse as Argentina, India, United Arab Emirates, and New Zealand. Currently, I'm back in my hometown of New York City, finishing a memoir about my time circling the globe, as well as the pitfalls of coming home. I write freelance travel and food pieces for such publications as The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Newsday, The Boston Globe, The Miami Herald, Men's Fitness, The Daily Meal, and Women’s Adventure. When I'm not nursing lattes in downtown Manhattan cafés, I keep busy running marathons, scouring the city for good live music, sampling great food and wine, and researching my next big adventure.
